Yale design standards enhance project turnover and IT infrastructure documentation

Printer-friendly version
Yale’s design standards for capital projects have been updated and are now available to project teams. These new and revised standards assist design architects and engineers in maintaining consistency on projects and continuity with existing university facilities, systems, and equipment.

The winter 2026 update includes a new Division 1 Project Documentation Turnover Guideline and IT Infrastructure Design Guidelines and Performance Standards Revision 1.5.1.

An updated table of contents and updated introduction and general guidelines provide an overview of changes and coordination with the sections below.
Division 01: General Requirements
  • 01 78 23 Attachment 1 Project Documentation Turnover GuidelineThis new section describes the administrative, procedural, and formatting requirements for project documentation at turnover and closeout for Yale use and archives. It includes expanded definitions, content and organizational requirements, and guidance related to document transfer. A new transfer checklist provides a quick reference to Yale project managers for evaluating documentation completion and conformance.

The guideline is coordinated with recently revised Division 1 sections related to closeout procedures, operations and maintenance, and demonstration and training. Requirements have been developed through cross-departmental collaboration and in consultation with our industry partners.

Division 27: COMMUNICATION
  • IT Infrastructure Design Guidelines and Performance Standards: Revision 1.5.1:  Revision 1.5.1 removes ambiguity in the previous standards to improve fidelity throughout construction, commissioning, and activation. New content specifies the manufacturers, part numbers, and requirements for contractors and now includes approved vendor lists for audio visual and cabling. In addition, formatting and organizational changes have been made for ease of use.
