Colleagues,
I am excited to welcome Carolina Cudemus Jones as our new senior director of capital program development and delivery for medical and west campuses! In this key role, which reports to me, the associate vice president for capital program development and delivery, Carolina is responsible for guiding a team of planners and project managers toward the successful delivery of capital projects for the Schools of Medicine and Public Health and Yale West Campus.
Carolina is an experienced executive with a demonstrated history of success in the architecture, construction, and engineering industry. This includes extensive knowledge of planning, design and construction, team organization, and master planning strategies for stakeholders in the private and public sector. Her experience spans working with higher education, research laboratories, healthcare, geothermal infrastructure, K-12, and state and federal agencies.
Prior to joining Yale, Carolina was the assistant vice president for capital projects at Smith College, where she was responsible for a variety of capital projects and initiatives — among them a facilities condition assessment, renovation and construction of research facilities and athletic buildings, and executing a campus-wide district energy geothermal project that includes building conversions from steam to low-temperature hot water to achieve carbon reduction goals set by the college.
Carolina also served as the director of design and construction management at the University of Massachusetts (UMass) Amherst, the flagship campus of the UMass system. At UMass Amherst, she oversaw a diverse capital projects portfolio, including athletic facilities, residential life buildings, research laboratories, classrooms, student centers, administrative space, dining commons, and campus utility infrastructure. Carolina was also a project executive for Gilbane Building Company and deputy director of the New Haven Schools capital program.
She received a B.S. in civil engineering from Christian Brothers University and an M.B.A. in management from the University of Hartford. Carolina is the chair and founder of the Construction Institute’s “Women Who Build Summit” and is a Higginbotham Fellow through the American Arbitration Association. She is an Associate Design-Build Professional and is certified in public purchasing in the State of Massachusetts.
Please join me in extending a warm welcome to Carolina as she joins the Yale Facilities team on October 21, 2024.
Sincerely,
Michael Schrier, AIA, MBA
